Firefighters battled an early Wednesday morning house fire in northwest Atlanta as frigid temperatures created additional challenges for crews.
No one was injured in the fire at a house on Andrew J. Hairston Place, near Joseph E. Boone Boulevard. Atlanta Fire & Rescue said the house was vacant and under renovation.
One neighbor, who came out later in the morning as she was headed out to work, said the fire woke her up.
“It was crazy. No one lived in the house. They’ve been working on it,” the next-door neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said. “I thought it was my house that was on fire.”
Fire crews quickly brought the blaze under control but spent several hours monitoring hot spots. Smoke was visible coming from the house when Atlanta News First arrived on the scene.
The freezing temperatures created visible challenges for firefighters, with water from fire hoses freezing on the pavement.
Fire crews responded to two separate overnight house fires in different parts of Atlanta, with officials confirming no injuries in either incident.
What we know:
In northwest Atlanta, firefighters were called early in the morning to a two-story home on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard. Crews found heavy fire and smoke when they arrived but determined no one was inside the house at the time. Fire officials say the blaze was brought under control, and the cause remains under investigation.
A second fire broke out overnight in southwest Atlanta. Crews were dispatched around 3 a.m. to a home on Herring Road, where they encountered heavy smoke and fire, including flames in the attic.

No injuries were reported in that fire either, and investigators are now working to determine what sparked the blaze.
